Pick up a new programming language at RookieHacks! Whether you're brand new to hackathons or a seasoned veteran, this event is for you. If you're brand new, welcome! We'll have beginner friendly workshops and plenty of mentors to help you out this weekend. If you're an experienced hackathoner, we're asking you to code your project in a completely new language this weekend. Invite your first time hacker friends!

Eligibility

This event open to hackers, all over the world, who are students at the time of the hackathon or who have graduated within the last 12 months. Students can include high school students, university undergraduate or postgraduate students, and people who are in vocational training such as apprenticeships.

As per our Code of Conduct, there is no discrimination on the basis of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, economic status, veteran status, disability, or age.

Build or add automation to your hack using UiPath! Each winning team member will receive a Limited Edition UiPath Branded Backpack.

Best use of MongoDB Atlas

Create a hack using MongoDB Atlas to host a database in the cloud! Automate the provisioning and deployment process with ease, while focusing all your efforts on your hack. Projects built using MongoDB Atlas will be eligible to win an AirCharge Plus per team member.

Facebook Spark AR Sticker Challenge

Create an Instagram filter using Facebook's Spark AR. Winner of the category will have their filter published through the MLH Instagram Channel & Featured on Facebook's Spark AR Community Page.Winning stickers will get published through the MLH Instagram Channel & Featured on Facebook's Spark AR Community Page. Most Creative Radar.io Hack

Build the most creative hack using Radar's SDKs and APIs for geofencing, location search, and geocoding. Some ideas for location-aware projects include a delivery tracker, campus building locator, and a Find my Friends clone. Winning team members will be eligible to win a Tile Sticker Smart Tracker and a chance to be featured by Radar.

  • Originality
    Has this project been done before at hackathons in the past? How creative is their project in solving the problem at hand?
  • Technology
    How technically impressive was the hack? Was the technical problem the team tackled difficult? Did it use a particularly clever technique or did it use many different components? Did the technology involved make you go "Wow"?
  • Design
    Did the team put thought into the user experience? How well designed is the interface?
  • Completion
    Does the hack work? Did the team achieve everything they wanted?
  • Learning
    Did the team stretch themselves? Did they try to learn something new? What kind of projects have they worked on before?
  • Adherence to Theme
    Does the hack adhere to the event's theme? Does it implement that theme fully or just partially?
